Gearing Up for the Douro Challenge

This article was published on May 26, 2020

Tour of the Douro

On Monday, Chris Mathews from NewVoiceMedia customer Berry Bros. & Rudd, will join a team of 11 cyclists from the UK wine trade to pedal over 600km along the Douro river for drinks industry charity ‘The Benevolent Society’

Bringing together a mix of experienced riders and incoming new ones, the team is all geared up for the big day following an intense few months of training. Chris is perhaps the most experienced of all the riders, and having ridden competitively as a young man, felt the urge to don the lycra again for charity. Even so, he describes the ride as the most challenging the team will have attempted, with a distinctly more mountainous profile to the routes they have tackled in previous years.

The team will begin in Rioja’s Haro and finish in Oporto, documenting their progress over the four days through a blog. You can also follow them on Twitter using the hashtag #tourofthedouro.

NewVoiceMedia is supporting Chris through its charitable foundation GivingVoice, and he will gratefully receive all donations, large and small, through his JustGiving page. The Benevolent Society works to combat challenging social issues such as long-term illness, homelessness, addiction, poverty and disability, as well as providing practical, emotional and financial support to those from the trade in need.

We’d like to wish Chris and his team the very best of luck and will be checking out their progress along the way. For more information about NewVoiceMedia’s Foundation and the work that we do, just visit our GivingVoice page.
